Turkish Airlines Unveils New Sustainability Program: ‘Tomorrow On-Board’

    Sustainability brand launched

    On June 5, which was also World Environment Day, Turkish Airlines launched its sustainability brand called ‘Tomorrow On-Board.’ The carrier marked the occasion with a special event at its hub at Istanbul Airport and displayed its sustainable in-flight products and services, along with items made from repurposed aircraft parts. Levent Konukcu, Chief Investment & Strategy Officer of Turkish Airlines, commented,

    “Tomorrow On-Board initiative embodies our commitment to reducing our environmental impact and enhancing sustainability practices across all our operations to leave a better world for future generations. Through this platform, we emphasize our dedication to offering transparent information and data, ensuring that our sustainability efforts are consistently clear and easily accessible to all stakeholders.”

    To honor the launch, Turkish Airlines also held an exhibition titled 41.2607° North and 28.7424° East. It showcased a selection of artworks, such as paintings, sculptures, and installations by four different artists.

    These artworks, created from items such as parts from a decommissioned aircraft, flight crew uniforms and bags, cabin carpets, and seat fabrics, emphasize the goal of a better world. The exhibition will continue for two weeks at Istanbul Airport.

    Objectives behind ‘Tomorrow On-Board’

    Through ‘Tomorrow On-Board,’ Turkish Airlines wants to highlight the scope of its future goals and aims to present this comprehensive vision to passengers and investors as part of the corporate culture.

    It has been created keeping in mind several key objectives, such as enhancing the brand image, delivering a unified message and visual framework for all sustainability statements, systematically communicating sustainability activities to investors, and ensuring passengers have the opportunity to take part in sustainability initiatives.

    Turkish Airlines envisions ‘Tomorrow On-Board’ as a guiding force for the company’s sustainability practices and communication efforts.

    Sustainability policy

    Like other organizations of similar scale, Turkish Airlines also has various policies in place. These include policies for safety, quality, security, and training, among others. And one of them is its sustainability policy, which, among various things, includes the following:

    Adoption of Corporate Management Culture: This is in place to identify risks that may jeopardize the continuity of all its activities, products, and services, as well as opportunities that may support its development in advance, and to determine the corrective actions required.

    Climate Change Combat: It supports fuel efficiency initiatives and also those to decrease greenhouse gas emissions, among other things. It also supports sustainable biofuel research and development work.

    Considering People and the Environment while Growing: This includes preventive measures against noise pollution and waste and giving priority to the use of sustainable products with a lifecycle understanding and support for recycling.

    Sustainable Growth and Profitability: This is in place with the aim of creating value for everybody living in society. This also includes supporting the local economic and social developments in the regions Turkish Airlines flies to.

    The carrier’s sustainability policy covers many more areas, such as adding value to stakeholders, improving the balance between male and female employees, and support to innovation, among others.
