The Dominican carrier Arajet has announced it will offer nearly 400,000 seats for travel between the Dominican Republic, North, Central, and South America, and the Caribbean during the next winter season. Arajet is looking to expand its presence across the region after a strong debut as an ultra-low-cost carrier.
More seats available
On Wednesday, Arajet announced during the Trade Show organized by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic in Miami that it will offer about 400,00 new seats available for travel to 17 destinations in 11 countries across the region. Arajet is based in Santo Domingo. The airline –launched in September last year– operates with a fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft.
Arajet is increasing its number of operations, adding new frequencies on crucial destinations such as Mexico City, Guatemala City, San Salvador, and Jamaica. The low-cost carrier has also begun offering connection flights through its hub at Las Américas International in Santo Domingo. Víctor Pacheco, Chief Executive Officer and founder of Arajet, said in a statement,
“Our customers have 2,156 new flights scheduled on Arajet’s itinerary and nearly 400,000 seats to make the dream of flying, visiting friends and family, closing business deals and vacationing during the winter of 2023/2024 a reality.”
He added that the company can support tourism and the region’s development with this extended itinerary.
No announcement of the new routes yet
In recent months, Arajet has requested permission to launch new routes across the region. The most interesting future services are the ones to the United States. In March, the airline requested the Department of Transportation (DOT) authorization to open commercial services to New York John F. Kennedy, Miami International, and San Juan International. The goal is to open these routes by 2023’s fall if approved.

Nonetheless, Arajet is also looking at new destinations across the Latin American region. Late last year, the company requested authorization to fly eight new regional routes to Brazil, Honduras, Belize, Barbados, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana. It would serve Sao Paulo Guarulhos, Rio de Janeiro Galeao International, and Manaus International in Brazil. Arajet would reach San Pedro Sula in Honduras, Belize International in Belize, Bridgetown International in Barbados, Port of Spain Piarco International in Trinidad & Tobago, and Georgetown International in Guyana.
Nonetheless, Arajet has not formally announced when it would launch any of these routes. These are all the routes recently requested by Arajet and the company’s current map route:
The product
Arajet currently operates a fleet of five Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. These planes have a temporary two-class configuration. They can carry 185 passengers. The airline has an order with Boeing for 20 additional MAX planes (plus options). Simple Flying recently flew with Arajet on two routes, Mexico City-Santo Domingo and Santo Domingo-Bogota. The airline’s services are low-cost. Through its hub in Santo Domingo, the company is looking to leverage its geographical position to create connectivity across the Americas. That idea is very similar to the one offered by Copa Airlines in Panama’s Tocumen International.
