Iberia has restarted its service between Madrid and San Francisco for the summer. With three weekly flights between the two destinations until October, the Spanish carrier will offer 45% more seats compared to last year onboard its Airbus A330-200 aircraft.
Iberia reconnects Madrid with San Francisco
The airline resumed its direct flights between Madrid-Barajas Airport (MAD) and San Francisco International Airport (SFO) on May 4th. The thrice-weekly service will operate on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays until October 27th.
The full schedule is as follows:
- Flight IB6193 – Departs Madrid at 12:20, arrives in San Francisco at 16:15.
- Flight IB6174 – Departs San Francisco at 17:50, arrives in Madrid at 14:10+1.
SFO will be the second Californian airport served by Iberia this year, along with Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). Under IAG brand LEVEL, Iberia also resumed services to San Francisco out of Barcelona Airport (BCN) earlier in the year, with four weekly flights launching in March.
Higher than pre-pandemic capacity
During the summer, the carrier will operate a total of 154 flights on this route, a sizable 45% increase in capacity from last year and slightly above its pre-pandemic levels. This will amount to around 45,000 seats for the summer on its Airbus A330-200 fleet – Iberia’s A330s can seat up to 288 passengers in business, premium economy and economy.

An impressive US schedule
Iberia will serve eight US destinations this summer, nine if you include Puerto Rico. From its Madrid hub, the carrier will fly to Boston, Chicago O’Hare, Dallas-Fort Worth, Los Angeles, Miami, New York (JFK), San Francisco and Washington Dulles. Low-cost subsidiary LEVEL will also operate out of Barcelona, serving Boston, Los Angeles, New York (JFK) and San Francisco.
Data from Cirium shows that by July, Iberia will operate over 750 flights between Spain and the US, offering almost 230,000 seats. The carrier notes that the US is “one of its star markets” and will offer 15% more capacity to the country this summer compared to 2022.
- Dallas (DFW): six weekly flights, increasing to a daily flight from June
- Los Angeles (LAX): five weekly flights
- New York (JFK): 13 weekly flights, increasing two a double-daily from July
- Miami (MIA): two daily flights
- Chicago (ORD): one daily flight
- Boston (BOS): one daily flight
- Washington (IAD): four weekly flights
- San Francisco (SFO): three weekly flights
- Puerto Rico (SJU): five weekly flights, increasing to six in August and September
On top of this, the airline’s remaining transatlantic capacity to Latin America and the Caribbean will be slightly above its pre-pandemic levels, showing how well the carrier has recovered. Parent company IAG has plenty to be optimistic about entering the summer after posting its first profitable quarter since 2019.
