Singapore Airlines Foundation to Empower Students and Boost Aviation Industry

The Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group is introducing the Singapore Airlines Foundation, aimed at supporting individuals and communities in need within Singapore and fostering the growth of the country’s aviation industry.

Established as a company limited by guarantee, the foundation will be funded by income earned from a S$30 million endowment contributed by SIA. This initiative continues the Group’s long-standing commitment to giving back to the communities it serves worldwide.

The foundation will initially launch two programs to provide financial aid to students in need and inspire them through immersive aviation industry experiences and mentorship schemes.

The Youth Uplift Programme is designed to empower students from families in need, preparing them for successful careers, particularly in the aviation industry. The foundation will offer financial assistance to eligible students at Singapore’s Institute of Technical Education (ITE) colleges, polytechnics, or universities. Participants will also gain valuable industry experience through a three- to six-month traineeship with the SIA Group, courses from the Singapore Airlines Academy to enhance their personal and professional skills, and mentorship from SIA employees. Applications are expected to open in July 2024.

The Youth Outreach Programme offers a unique immersive experience aimed at igniting a passion for the aviation industry among upper secondary school and junior college students. This five-day hands-on, behind-the-scenes experience with the SIA Group during school holidays will provide students with an exclusive look at the Group’s operations and insights from the teams behind its success.

Mr Goh Choon Phong, Chief Executive Officer, Singapore Airlines, said: “Establishing the Singapore Airlines Foundation represents a significant milestone in the SIA Group’s long tradition of service and contribution to communities worldwide. Its programmes will support those in need, inspire and empower the next generation of aviation professionals, and help catalyse the long-term growth of Singapore’s air hub.”

The SIA Group and its employees remain committed to supporting a variety of community activities in Singapore and the global markets served by SIA and Scoot. These activities currently include initiatives that foster sporting talent, promote the arts, encourage environmental stewardship, and assist those in need, including children, youth, senior citizens, and people with disabilities.

In 2017, to mark its 70th anniversary, SIA raised S$2.55 million for Community Chest through three fundraising events. In 2023, the airline helped to raise S$2.6 million for Cerebral Palsy Alliance Singapore and SPD, two organizations supporting communities with special needs, through its SIA Cares fundraising drive.
