Riyadh’s King Khalid Airport launches ‘Silent Airport’ project
AVIATION NEWS- King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh has begun rolling out its ‘Silent Airport’ project, reducing public announcements across the terminal and shifting more of the passenger experience towards digital flight information.
The first phase began on Tuesday at Terminal 5, where general announcements are being reduced and limited primarily to departure gates.
The move is intended to create a quieter and more comfortable environment while allowing passengers to access flight information through digital channels.
Screens over announcements
Rather than relying on repeated announcements across the terminal, passengers will be able to follow their flights through digital screens, airport signage, the airport’s website and its WhatsApp service on 920020090.
The airport’s “Ask Me” team will also continue to provide assistance to passengers who require information.
The initiative does not mean that King Khalid International Airport will become entirely silent. The first phase is focused on reducing repeated public announcements, with information specific to individual flights being delivered closer to the relevant departure gate.
Necessary operational, security and emergency announcements will continue to be made when required.
The shift also builds on digital services already in place at the airport. KKIA’s WhatsApp service provides passengers with flight notifications, baggage tracking and information on airport services, giving travellers an alternative to relying on public-address announcements for routine updates.
