The Qantas Airbus A380 Returns To Hong Kong After 3 Years

It'll take off on March 26th.

Qantas will again use the A380 from Sydney to Hong Kong, according to its last schedule update. Having earlier used the double-decker quadjet on the 4,581-mile (7,372 km) route until February 2020, it’ll return in March after a three-year absence.

Qantas A380 to Hong Kong

On March 26th, Qantas will resume flying the A380 to Hong Kong. Now bookable, it will (for now) run until June 5th, although it is currently unclear if it will be extended. The April schedule is as follows, with all times local:

  • Sydney to Hong Kong: QF127, 10:25-17:40 (9h 15m block time)
  • Hong Kong to Sydney: QF128, 19:40-06:45+1 (9h 5m)

Hong Kong capacity grows by 47%

Depending on the week, Qantas has either three weekly or daily A380 flights. When it is daily, it will fully replace the A330-300/A330-200. When it is three weekly, the A330 will operate the other services. It means that, between March 26th and June 5th, Qantas’ two-way Sydney-Hong Kong seats for sale have risen by 47%: from 41,928 planned last week to 61,496.

Significantly, first class returns; Qantas’s A380s have 14 first suites. There’s also a massive boost to business class. As it appears that Qantas will use its 484-seat A380s, these have 64 flatbed business seats, around 36 more (+129%) than the A330s it replaces. It also means there will be 35 premium economy recliners, a cabin that hasn’t been offered on the route in three years.
