Air aviation news – Akasa Air\u00a0(QP,\u00a0Mumbai International<\/a>) CEO Vinay Dube has told India\u2019s CNBC TV18 channel that the carrier will reveal its \u201cthree-digit\u201d aircraft order in the coming weeks, which will cover deliveries between mid-2027 and the end of 2032. The airline also now plans to begin international operations by the end of March 2024, later than\u00a0its earlier end-of-2023 target<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Initial destinations for the low-cost carrier should be\u00a0Doha Hamad International<\/a>,\u00a0Kuwait<\/a>, and\u00a0Jeddah<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Riyadh<\/a>\u00a0in Saudi Arabia, while Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Maldives will be part of a second phase and \u201care all part of Akasa\u2019s network plan for the near future.\u201d<\/p>\n

The airline\u00a0secured authorisation from India<\/a>\u00a0in September to fly abroad and\u00a0was granted traffic rights<\/a>\u00a0the following month for operations to Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Qatar. But it is still awaiting authorisation from the governments of those countries.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s going to be another few months, we\u2019re hoping another three to four months. But we are a little dependent in terms of permissions we get from third parties from foreign countries,\u201d he said, assuring that the first phase of international flights will begin \u201cin the first half of 2024 unequivocally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Akasa Air\u2019s fleet currently consists of nineteen\u00a0B737-8<\/a>s and one\u00a0B737-8-200<\/a>, and it has 52 more of the -200s and four more of the original -8 model on order, according to the\u00a0ch-aviation fleets advanced<\/a>\u00a0module. Dube said that two more aircraft are expected by the end of 2023, 18 more during the course of next year, and all 76 will be in place by mid-2027.<\/p>\n

A firm announcement about\u00a0a new three-digit aircraft order<\/a>\u00a0is scheduled for December or January, he added. This will cover deliveries stretching from the middle of 2027 to the end of 2032. The chief executive stressed that Akasa Air has no market share targets, but it does aim to be \u201cIndia\u2019s cost leader.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked about the airline\u2019s funding strategy, Dube said that \u201cno more cash is needed at this point\u201d and elaborated that \u201cas with any new airline, cash burn at the moment is at an operating level, not net cash burn, in fact we are net cash positive.\u201d It can continue for now without the need for additional capital, he said.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that the family of the carrier\u2019s key investor Rakesh Jhunjhunwala, who\u00a0died suddenly in August 2022<\/a> one week after Akasa Air conducted its first commercial flight, \u201cis absolutely not looking to divest\u201d and remains not just financially but also emotionally invested in the carrie<\/p>\n
