{"id":11464,"date":"2024-01-07T12:09:28","date_gmt":"2024-01-07T09:09:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=11464"},"modified":"2024-01-07T12:09:28","modified_gmt":"2024-01-07T09:09:28","slug":"aviation-safety-expert-weighs-in-on-boeing-737-max-9s-after-mid-air-alaska-airlines-incident","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=11464","title":{"rendered":"Aviation safety expert weighs in on Boeing 737 Max 9s after mid-air Alaska Airlines incident"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aviation News International &#8211; On Saturday, the Federal Aviation Administration ordered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/faa-statement-temporary-grounding-certain-boeing-737-max-9-aircraft\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.faa.gov\/newsroom\/faa-statement-temporary-grounding-certain-boeing-737-max-9-aircraft\">the temporary grounding<\/a>\u00a0of certain Boeing 737 Max 9 planes operated by U.S. airlines following\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/business\/money-report\/united-airlines-to-ground-boeing-737-max-9-planes-after-panel-blew-off-alaska-air-flight\/3396962\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"URL\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsandiego.com\/news\/business\/money-report\/united-airlines-to-ground-boeing-737-max-9-planes-after-panel-blew-off-alaska-air-flight\/3396962\/\">a mid-air incident during an Alaska Airlines flight<\/a>\u00a0from Portland to Southern California that forced an emergency landing.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA is requiring immediate inspections of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 planes before they can return to flight,\u201d FAA Administrator Mike Whitaker said in a statement. \u201cSafety will continue to drive our decision-making as we assist the NTSB\u2019s investigation into Alaska Airlines Flight 1282.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are just more than 200 Boeing 737 Max 9 planes in use worldwide, according to Hassan Shahidi, the president and CEO of the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/flightsafety.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Flight Safety Foundation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRelatively, it\u2019s a very small part of the entire fleet of thousands of aircraft that are out there,\u201d Shahidi told NBC 7.<\/p>\n<p>Alaska Airlines has around 60 Max 9 planes and United Airlines has 79, making them the largest carrier of the Boeing model in the U.S., according to a statement.
