We are working directly with impacted customers to find them alternative travel options.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>United has 79 Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft, including about 33 that have already received the necessary inspection that is required by the FAA.<\/p>\n<p>Removing certain MAX 9 aircraft from service is expected to cause about 60 cancellations today.<\/p>\n<p>The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has ordered the temporary grounding of 171\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aviationsourcenews.com\/?s=Boeing\">Boeing<\/a>\u00a0737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by U.S airlines or in U.S territory.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/FAANews\/status\/1743692471559651513\">statement from the FAA<\/a>\u00a0reads:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe FAA will order the temporary grounding of certain Boeing 737 MAX 9 aircraft operated by U.S airlines or in U.S territory\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Emergency Airworthiness Directive (EAD) that will be issued shortly will require operators to inspect aircraft before further flight that do not meet the inspection cycles specified in the EAD\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe required inspections will take around four to eight hours per aircraft. The EAD will affect approximately 171 airplanes worldwide\u201d.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/boeing.mediaroom.com\/2024-01-06-Boeing-Statement-on-737-9-Inspections\">American planemaker Boeing<\/a>\u00a0has released a statement also in the last few minutes, agreeing with the FAA\u2019s decision to implement this temporary grounding:<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"aswift_4_host\" tabindex=\"0\" title=\"Advertisement\" aria-label=\"Advertisement\"><\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSafety is our top priority and we deeply regret the impact this event has had on our customers and their passengers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe agree with and fully support the FAA\u2019s decision to require immediate inspections of 737-9 airplanes with the same configuration as the affected airplane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn addition, a Boeing technical team is supporting the NTSB\u2019s investigation into last night\u2019s event.
