an unprecedented storm that saw the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2024\/04\/17\/emirati-dies-in-flash-floods-as-record-rainfall-lashes-uae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">heaviest rainfall on record<\/a>\u00a0in the past 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2024\/04\/16\/abu-dhabi-and-dubai-lashed-by-heavy-rain-thunder-and-lightning\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">major travel hub was forced to shut down operations<\/a>\u00a0for 25 minutes on Tuesday due to the adverse weather.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">Roads leading to the airport remained blocked and flooded after the deluge.<\/p>\n<div class=\"arcad-container\">\n<div id=\"arcad_3123\" class=\"arcad ad-1x1\" data-google-query-id=\"CKyU7sWRyYUDFQOaJwIda8IF8g\">\n<div class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">Several passengers missed\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2024\/04\/16\/dubai-airport-flooded\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">flights due to the flooding<\/a>, while many airlines cancelled or diverted services.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">The airport urged passengers not to travel to the airport unless \u201cabsolutely necessary\u201d on Wednesday morning.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">Chief executive Paul Griffiths said the hub&#8217;s biggest challenge is flooding and backlog of aircraft.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">\u201cWe&#8217;re having to operate a strict one-in-one-out philosophy because there&#8217;s nowhere to park these aircraft as they are arriving and departing,\u201d he said on Dubai Eye on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<div similar challenges after flights from\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2024\/04\/16\/heavy-rain-floods-parts-of-dubai-marina-and-jbr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dubai<\/a>\u00a0International were diverted there, he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">\u201cSome airlines are experiencing problems with crew duty hours and trying to get aircraft mobilised,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">Mr Griffiths praised the efforts of emergency services and thanked\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thenationalnews.com\/news\/uae\/2024\/04\/16\/dubai-airport-floods-after-heavy-rain-in-the-uae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dubai&#8217;s<\/a>\u00a0Road and Transports Authority for their help in getting operations back to normal.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-1jtxuc8-1 jQghZF body-paragraph\">\u201cIt remains an incredibly challenging time.
