Now it&#8217;s taken another major step, becoming the first to perform a successful transition \u2013 from helicopter-style hovering to airplane-like cruising \u2013 with a pilot on board. And it&#8217;s kindly captured the achievement on video<\/p>\n<p>A big reason Beta landed the #2 spot on the Advanced Air Mobility Reality Index (AAM RI) back in 2021 was that it had just received the very first\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/2596184\/air-force-awards-first-airworthiness-approval-for-human-flight-in-electric-airc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">military airworthiness approval<\/a>\u00a0for manned electric aircraft flight, meaning the Air Force was confident enough to put its own pilot in the seat and take flight. A few months ago, Beta delivered the Alia platform (in\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/newatlas.com\/aircraft\/beta-cx300-fixed-wing-electric-airplane\/?itm_source=newatlas&amp;itm_medium=article-body\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">conventional takeoff and landing<\/a>\/CTOL form) to the\u00a0<a class=\"Link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.af.mil\/News\/Article-Display\/Article\/3571824\/betas-alia-electric-aircraft-arrives-at-eglin-afb\/#:~:text=BETA%20Technologies%2C%20an%20electric%20aerospace,26%2C%202023.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-cms-ai=\"0\">US Air Force<\/a>\u00a0at Florida&#8217;s Eglin Air Force Base.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the company has made another big leap, completing a full transition from VTOL hover to wing-borne cruise, and then back to hovering for landing, becoming the first company ever to demonstrate that feat with a pilot on board.
