Thanks to the dedication of several Houston Wing members and volunteers, the aircraft is now flying in support of the CAF\u2019s mission to educate, inspire, and honor. The restoration project team, led by Ed Vesley, Stan Turner, Tom Calpouzos, and Lisa Sanford, invested approximately 5,000 hours of work to complete the project.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-94460 size-mh-magazine-content lazyload\" title=\"PT-19 Takes to The Skies Again After Six-Year Restoration 1\" data-src=\"https:\/\/vintageaviationnews.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/PT-19-Takes-to-The-Skies-Again-After-Six-Year-Restoration_ed-Vesely-678x381.png\" alt=\"PT 19 Takes to The Skies Again After Six Year Restoration ed Vesely\" width=\"678\" height=\"381\" src=\"data:image\/svg+xml;base64,PHN2ZyB3aWR0aD0iMSIgaGVpZ2h0PSIxIiB4bWxucz0iaHR0cDovL3d3dy53My5vcmcvMjAwMC9zdmciPjwvc3ZnPg==\" style=\"--smush-placeholder-width: 678px; --smush-placeholder-aspect-ratio: 678\/381;\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The restoration began with stripping the aircraft down to its bare airframe, including a complete rebuild of the center section. The aircraft\u2019s wings and horizontal stabilizer required only minor repairs. We\u2019ll now continue to fly the PT-19 for a few more hours to break in the engine, and then it will be put back on the flight line, hopefully in time to offer rides at our July 13 event at Houston Executive Airport.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As the PT-19 returns to the rides program, people will once again have the opportunity to experience this amazing aircraft through flight. This project not only showcases the team\u2019s skills and dedication but also highlights the importance of preserving historical aircraft. The PT-19\u2019s return to airworthy status celebrates heritage, craftsmanship, and the passion of those who work to keep aviation history alive.
