Many flights across the world have been delayed or canceled Friday because of a major IT system failure.<\/p>\n

All flights for US carriers United Airlines, Delta Air Lines, and American Airlines were grounded early on Friday before operations started ramping up again.<\/p>\n

American Airlines has confirmed that is has resolved the issue affecting its operations, while Delta and United have resumed some flights.<\/p>\n

The Federal Aviation Administration provided assistance to airlines with ground stops as the IT issue was being addressed, the agency said early Friday morning\u00a0on X<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cCurrently FAA operations are not impacted by the global IT issue,\u201d the FAA\u00a0posted later on Friday<\/a>. \u201cWe continue to monitor the situation closely.\u201d The\u00a0agency also said<\/a>\u00a0the IT issue \u201ccould continue to affect flights this weekend.\u201d<\/p>\n

As of midday Friday, thousands of flights had been canceled globally, with chaotic scenes at airports across the world as passengers waited for updates.<\/p>\n

Here are some of the major airlines and airports that have been impacted by the tech outage:<\/p>\n

Impacted airlines and airports<\/h2>\n

The situation is evolving quickly, and passengers should check flights directly with carriers. The following are some of the carriers and airports with known technology impacts:<\/p>\n

North America<\/h2>\n

American Airlines<\/a>,\u00a0United Airlines<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Delta Air Lines<\/a>\u00a0were all impacted and issued travel waivers on Friday.<\/p>\n

\u201cEarlier this morning, a technical issue with a vendor impacted multiple carriers, including American. As of 5 a.m. ET, we have been able to safely re-establish our operation. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience,\u201d\u00a0American Airlines<\/strong>\u00a0said in a statement to CNN.<\/p>\n

Delta\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0United<\/strong>\u00a0resumed some flights Friday morning and warned of additional disruptions throughout the day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe issue\u00a0affected many separate systems, such as those used for calculating aircraft weight, checking in customers, and phone systems in our call centers,\u201d United Airlines said in a midday update.<\/p>\n

Ultra-low cost airline\u00a0SunCountry<\/strong>,\u00a0Allegiant Air<\/strong>,\u00a0Frontier\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0Spirit Airlines<\/strong>\u00a0were experiencing disruptions caused by the outage on Friday.<\/p>\n

Southwest Airlines and JetBlue were not impacted by the outage.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile our operational systems were not impacted by this outage, customers should monitor their flight status and build in extra time in the event that this outage has impacted specific airports due to outages at other airlines, airport operators, or government agencies,\u201d JetBlue said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Toronto-based\u00a0Porter Airlines<\/strong>\u00a0announced that it was canceling flights on Friday until noon ET due to \u201cprolonged third-party technology systems outages affecting multiple global industries.<\/p>\n

Two low-cost\u00a0airlines in Mexico City,\u00a0Volaris<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Viva Aerobus<\/strong>, were also impacted.<\/p>\n

Passengers traveling through\u00a0Los Angeles International Airport<\/strong>\u00a0are experiencing a \u201cmixed bag\u201d of delays and cancellations due to the tech outage, an airport spokesperson told CNN.<\/p>\n

At\u00a0Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport<\/strong>\u00a0airside operations are working, although some customer-facing\u00a0airlines \u201care dealing with a few challenges,\u201d amid the ongoing\u00a0global\u00a0computer outage<\/a>, Andrew Gobeil, who oversees public affairs outreach at the airport, told CNN.<\/p>\n

At\u00a0Dallas Fort Worth International Airport<\/strong>\u00a0officials \u201canticipate significant delays and cancellations throughout the day,\u201d\u00a0the airport said<\/a>. \u201cWe ask customers to verify your flight status with your\u00a0airline\u00a0prior to heading to the airport. Longer lines are possible so allow extra time.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chicago O\u2019Hare International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>advised passengers to check their flight status directly with their carrier due to the tech issues. \u201cLonger lines and wait times are possible, please allow extra time,\u201d\u00a0it said<\/a>.<\/p>\n

John F. Kennedy International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said:\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThe Port Authority is not affected by the ongoing global network outage, but some\u00a0airlines are experiencing delays\/cancellations. DO NOT head to the airport unless your flight status is confirmed,\u201d\u00a0according to an\u00a0airport post on X<\/a>. That guidance applies to\u00a0LaGuardia<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Newark<\/strong>\u00a0airports as well.<\/p>\n

Philadelphia International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said passengers should expect delays and cancellations on Friday.<\/p>\n

Charlotte Douglas International Airport<\/strong>\u00a0advised passengers not to come to the airport \u201cunless they have confirmed their flight information with the\u00a0airline.\u201d<\/p>\n

Miami International Airport<\/strong>\u00a0advised<\/a>\u00a0that US Customs and Border Patrol operations are being affected nationwide, \u201cso international passenger arrivals are currently being processed manually at a slower pace.\u201d<\/p>\n

Around the world<\/h2>\n

Asia Pacific<\/h2>\n

In the Asia Pacific region,\u00a0AirAsia<\/strong>\u2019s \u201ccore reservation and check-in system\u201d was impacted and Cebu Pacific Air was forced to handle all processes manually.<\/p>\n

Singapore Airlines<\/strong>, the flag carrier of Singapore, said none of its flights had been impacted, but it is experiencing technical difficulties.<\/p>\n

Qantas<\/strong>, the flag carrier of Australia, has also been impacted by IT disruptions, and was still operating Friday, but with delays.<\/p>\n

Taiwan\u2019s Taoyuan International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said several\u00a0airlines at the airport had been impacted.\u00a0Jetstar, Hong Kong Express, Jeju Air and Scoot\u00a0<\/strong>have all resorted to manual check-ins, the airport said.<\/p>\n

Delhi\u2019s Indira Gandhi International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>and six Indian\u00a0airlines have also reported technical difficulties.\u00a0Jaipur International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said \u201cflights nationwide\u201d have been affected by the outage.<\/p>\n

South Korea\u2019s Incheon International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said\u00a0Air Premia<\/strong>,\u00a0Easter Jet\u00a0<\/strong>and several other\u00a0airlines had been affected.\u00a0Korean Air,\u00a0<\/strong>the country\u2019s flagship carrier, said it uses Amazon Web Services (AWS) and so had not been affected.<\/p>\n

Middle East<\/h2>\n

Dubai International Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said the check-in process for some\u00a0airlines had been affected, but that it is \u201cnow back to operating normally.\u201d<\/p>\n

Europe<\/h2>\n

London\u2019s Gatwick Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said it is \u201caffected by the global Microsoft issues\u201d and that passengers may experience delays checking in and going through security.<\/p>\n

Germany\u2019s Berlin Airport\u00a0<\/strong>said it is experiencing delays to check-in due to a \u201ctechnical fault.\u201d<\/p>\n

Amsterdam\u2019s Schiphol Airport<\/strong>\u00a0said the \u201cglobal system failure\u201d had affected \u201cflights to and from Schiphol\u201d and the impact is \u201cnow being mapped.\u201d\u00a0KLM Royal Dutch\u00a0Airlines<\/strong>\u00a0said the outages are \u201cmaking flight handling impossible.\u201d<\/p>\n

Scotland\u2019s Edinburgh Airport<\/strong>\u00a0said the outages mean \u201cwait times are longer than usual at the airport.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s airport authority<\/strong>, AENA, which supervises airports in Madrid, Barcelona and others across the country said the outage \u201ccould cause delays\u201d and that its staff are working to solve the problems.\u00a0Iberia\u00a0Airlines<\/strong>, the flag carrier of Spain\u2019s\u00a0airline, told CNN their systems started working again at 9:30 a.m. local time (3:30 a.m. ET), adding there were still some delays.<\/p>\n

Prague Airport<\/strong>\u00a0said the issues have affected its global check-in system, delaying flights.<\/p>\n

Ireland\u2019s Ryanair<\/strong>\u00a0also confirmed a disruption to the\u00a0airline\u2019s network, advising passengers to arrive at least three hours before their scheduled departure time.<\/p>\n

Air France<\/strong>,\u00a0<\/strong>the country\u2019s flag carrier, said the IT issue had disrupted its operations \u2014 although flights already in the air are not affected.<\/p>\n

Turkish\u00a0Airlines\u00a0<\/strong>said it was experiencing problems with ticketing, check-in and reservations.\u00a0\u201cOur teams are working diligently to resolve the issue,\u201d the\u00a0airline\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

Central and South America<\/h2>\n

Panama-based\u00a0Copa\u00a0Airlines<\/strong>\u00a0said it is also one of the global\u00a0airlines impacted and some flights might be delayed following the large-scale third-party software outage, according to a post on X on Friday.\u00a0The\u00a0airline\u00a0asked passengers to \u201cgo to the airport at least 4 hours before your departure.\u201d<\/p>\n

LATAM Airlines<\/strong>, the Chilean carrier, announced on Friday that global outages \u201ccould be causing delays\u201d for some its flights.<\/p>\n
