President of the Thai Hotels Association Suksit Suvunditkul told the\u00a0Bangkok Post\u00a0that the number of direct flights and tourists from China remained small compared to other countries.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A daily direct service between Phuket and China\u2019s most populous city is bound to propel Chinese tourists to travel to the island and pump their yuan into the local economy.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Chinese tourism to Phuket \u2013 especially that booked through online platforms \u2013 is most likely to revive significantly next month, added Suksit.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div id=\"ezoic-pub-ad-placeholder-196\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The border has only just opened and Chinese tourists need time to update their travel documents. Airlines also need time to revive services to and from China.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">On Sunday \u2013 China\u2019s grand reopening \u2013 245 international flights departed from Beijing, compared to 2,500 daily flights from the airport in pre-pandemic China.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Yesterday, Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul welcomed 269 passengers on Xiamen Airlines flight MF833 from Xiamen in China \u2013\u00a0 the first flight from the mainland to Suvarnabhumi Airport since March 2020.<\/p>\n<div style=\"text-align: left;\">\n<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"autors-container-0\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Over the course of the day, 3,465 passengers from China flew into Thailand on 15 flights.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After welcoming the tourists, Anutin\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thethaiger.com\/coronavirus\/thailand-u-turns-on-covid-19-vaccine-entry-requirement\" data-lasso-id=\"498288\">announced<\/a>\u00a0the immediate removal of Thailand\u2019s reinstated Covid-19 vaccine entry requirement, just four days after the measure was revived.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Airports of Thailand, which operates Phuket International Airport, is yet to officially announce the new daily direct service between Phuket and Shanghai.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The Tourism Authority of Thailand (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/ThailandInsiderUSA\/\" data-lasso-id=\"498289\">TAT<\/a>) expects 300,000 Chinese to holiday in Thailand in the first quarter of 2023 and 7 \u2013 10 million to arrive over the course of the year.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In 2022, Thailand welcomed 11.5 million international arrivals,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thethaiger.com\/hot-news\/tourism\/thailand-to-surpass-tourism-target-thanks-to-malaysians-and-indians\" data-lasso-id=\"498290\">surpassing<\/a>\u00a0the TAT\u2019s target of 10 million.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Daily flights between\u00a0Phuket\u00a0in southern\u00a0Thailand\u00a0and\u00a0Shanghai\u00a0in\u00a0China\u00a0will takeoff next Wednesday, January 18, operated by Shanghai\u2019s Juneyao Airlines.
