To that end, they approved a\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/drive.google.com\/file\/d\/1yQjJwQ943uHfHVhYhHYtuu2ohBdkYrzn\/view?usp=sharing\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\"><u>letter of support<\/u><\/a>\u00a0for a feasibility study to be submitted to the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA).<\/p>\n<p>In collaboration with\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/pitkincoco.portal.civicclerk.com\/event\/6341\/files\/attachment\/17554\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\"><u>Pitkin County<\/u><\/a>, Mesa County supports a feasibility study establishing SAF production facilities closer to Western Slope airports. These facilities would serve several regional airports, including the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport, Eagle County Regional Airport, Grand Junction Regional Airport, and Rifle Garfield County Airport.<\/p>\n<p>The feasibility study will assess the availability of feedstock, biosolids, beetle kill, and agricultural waste, along with market conditions, production capacity, location suitability, infrastructure, environmental and economic impacts, and regulatory factors. It will also identify regional partnerships for advancing SAF on the Western Slope by determining permitting needs, guiding project management, and creating a community benefits plan to maximize workforce opportunities, environmental innovation, and economic gains for surrounding communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis feasibility study has diverse potential for our community to prosper,\u201d said Chair of the Board of Mesa County Commissioners Bobbie Daniel. \u201cThis project aligns organically with our ongoing initiatives, such as the \u200b<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/gjincubator.org\/launching-a-new-initiative-agriwest\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\"><u>AgriWest<\/u><\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a class=\"ext\" href=\"https:\/\/gjincubator.org\/circular-economy-development-center\/#:~:text=The%20Circular%20Economy%20Development%20Center,lifespan%20to%20achieve%20maximum%20value.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-extlink=\"\"><u>Circular Economy Development Center<\/u><\/a>\u00a0efforts in the Grand Valley. It touches on multiple aspects of what we are already doing in Mesa County, from economic development to infrastructure and transportation needs. I\u2019m eager to see the market study results and how they\u2019ll highlight the benefits of this project for our region.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mesa County is committed to supporting initiatives that enhance regional infrastructure and promote sustainable development. By backing this feasibility study with a $50,000 contribution and staff assistance, the County aims to contribute to the potential viability of SAF production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMesa County is rich in potential resources for future aviation fuels, whether it\u2019s biofuels or biosolids from the Persigo Plant, methane produced at the landfill, or even overgrowth in our forests,\u201d said Mesa County Commissioner Cody Davis. \u201cWe have a unique opportunity to contribute to sustainable aviation by recycling our available materials.
