Etihad Airways<\/a>\u00a0(EY,\u00a0Abu Dhabi International<\/a>) is in “exploratory” talks with both\u00a0Airbus<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Boeing<\/a>\u00a0about a new large widebody order, Bloomberg has reported citing unnamed sources.<\/p>\n

The Emirati flag carrier is choosing between the A350s and B777X types, although sources said the talks were not expected to be finalised any time soon. It is also possible that the airline will shun an order altogether.<\/p>\n

Etihad Airways is an existing customer for both large widebody types. It operates five\u00a0A350-1000<\/a>s with fifteen more on a firm order from Airbus, and also has an order for seven\u00a0A350F<\/a>s. It also has an order for eight\u00a0B777-8<\/a>s and seventeen\u00a0B777-9<\/a>s, while its current-generation B777 fleet comprises five\u00a0B777-200F<\/a>s and nine\u00a0B777-300(ER)<\/a>s. Etihad’s widebody fleet also includes ten\u00a0A380-800<\/a>s (of which only five are currently active), thirty-three\u00a0B787-9<\/a>s (with eight more on order), and ten\u00a0B787-10<\/a>s (with twenty more on order).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
