Germany’s airports are experiencing significant disruptions due to a failure in the federal police’s computer systems, with major consequences for border checks, on Friday.
\nA spokesperson for the federal police confirmed the technical issues, which are affecting the systems used to process passengers’ entry into the country, Berlin-based BILD newspaper reported.
\nAt Frankfurt Airport, the spokesperson explained that officials are manually performing tasks that would usually be handled by the automated systems.
\nThe cause of the system failure has not yet been identified.
\nMeanwhile, reports from Dusseldorf Airport indicate long queues at security checkpoints, with some passengers waiting for up to two hours. The airport stated that entry from outside the Schengen area is currently impossible, further complicating travel for international passengers.
\nAt Munich Airport, delays are minor, though the federal police acknowledged the ongoing technical issues. In Berlin, passengers are facing slightly longer wait times for entry, but there are no entry bans in place, according to an airport spokesperson.
