AVIATION NEWS-<\/strong> \u00a0The Amman City Airport has resumed commercial operations, providing additional air travel options between Jordan and more than 15 Arab and international destinations through low-cost airlines. Since flights resumed at the beginning of this year, the airport has handled around 200,000 passengers.
\nThe airport has received 1,650 commercial flights operated by eight local, Arab and foreign airlines, with operations progressing toward a target of two million passengers in the second phase of its development.
\nLocated near central Amman and serving as an alternative to the Queen Alia International Airport, the Amman City Airport provides additional travel options between Amman, countries in the region and Europe through low-cost carriers.
\nThe Jordan Airports Company (JAC) CEO Ahmad Azzam said the airport\u2019s commercial operations are important for supporting tourism and the national economy.
\nSpeaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Azzam said the resumption of regular commercial flights was part of efforts to strengthen the air transport system, diversify travel options and support tourism and the national economy.
\nHe said the use of an existing national asset, along with its location and infrastructure, is consistent with efforts to improve the efficiency of government investments and make greater use of existing resources. He added that the commercial operation of the airport aims to support tourism and the economy and expand low-cost air travel options.
\nAzzam identified the airport\u2019s proximity to central Amman as one of its main advantages, as it reduces travel time to and from the airport and makes travel more convenient, particularly for short-haul and regional flights.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
