(QUEEN CITY NEWS)\u00a0\u2013 The\u00a0Sullenberger Aviation Museum\u00a0today announced the completion of its reopening campaign that\u2019s garnered commitments of more than $31 million.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201cLift Off Campaign\u201d funds are intended for construction of the former Carolinas Aviation Museum\u2019s new facility adjacent to Charlotte Douglas International Airport. Ongoing fundraising efforts will continue for preopening operating costs.<\/p>\n<p>The museum said that donations have come\u00a0from the state of North Carolina, Mecklenburg County and city of Charlotte, as well as\u00a0numerous foundations, individuals and corporations. Top gifts in the multi-year public-private partnership include Charlotte companies Honeywell and Red Ventures.<\/p>\n<p>The facility is named in honor of \u201cMiracle on the Hudson\u201d pilot C.B. \u201cSully\u201d Sullenberger. The plane from the 2009 incident was slated to fly to Charlotte and was housed in the previous version of the museum. The Carolinas Aviation Museum closed in July 2019 to prepare for its new vision.<\/p>\n<div class=\"nlp-ignore-block article-content rich-text\">\n<aside class=\"promo-link\"><a class=\"promo-link__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.qcnews.com\/news\/local-news\/here-are-8-farms-around-charlotte-to-pick-your-own-strawberries\/?ipid=promo-link-block2\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"noopener\">Here are 8 farms around Charlotte to pick your own strawberries<\/a><\/aside>\n<\/div>\n<p>Anticipated to reopen during the first half of 2024, the Sullenberger Aviation Museum\u2019s extensive aircraft collection will enable authentic storytelling\u00a0of the\u00a0Carolinas\u2019 aviation past, present and future and serve as a\u00a0portal of opportunity for immersive and inclusive\u00a0learning experiences, STEM education and workforce development.<\/p>\n<p>Museum president Stephen Saucier noted that the facility will also improve economic vitality in Charlotte\u2019s West End, with 125,000 visitors expected annually.<\/p>\n<p>Vertical construction is expected to begin any day now following a groundbreaking in September 2022.
