Chris may be sad that his pilot tenure is ending, but he is also excited to see what the future holds for Allison\u2019s aviation career.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/chicago.suntimes.com\/2023\/4\/26\/23699355\/united-pilot-passes-torch-to-daughter-in-final-flight-to-ohare-airport-after-38-year-career\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chicago Sun Times<\/a>, Chris said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cThe opportunities she has, and the places she\u2019ll see, it\u2019s sad to think I won\u2019t be doing it, but I\u2019m happy to see it in front of her. It\u2019s kind of the passing of the torch. For over 90 consecutive years, a member of the Bales family has served with United Airlines, and 33-year-old Allison is all set to continue the legacy.<\/p>\n<p>She said,<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>\u201cBeing born into an aviation family, all the stories I\u2019ve heard, now it will be me having the stories and filling them in. It will be pretty incredible to keep this family legacy.\u201d<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<div class=\"ad-odd\"><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"the-us-rsquo-retiring-pilots-problem\">The US\u2019 retiring Pilots problem<\/h2>\n<p>Chris Bales\u2019 retirement may be an individual harmless event, but it represents a growing problem in the US. Several important stakeholders in US aviation have warned about an\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/united-states-airlines-hit-pilot-retirements-soon\/\">impending pilot shortage<\/a>\u00a0set to hit the industry later this decade. Estimates suggest 50% of all commercial airline pilots will be forced to retire to conform with the federally mandated retirement age of 65. The mandate is also the reason behind Capt.
