He was also one of the first seven students to graduate from the program in 2017.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel accomplished. I\u2019m happy where I\u2019m at. I wouldn\u2019t want to work anywhere but Hawaiian,\u201d Fruean said.<\/p>\n<h2>Paid apprentices<\/h2>\n<p>Hawaiian Airlines has invested in career pipeline programs and integrated training opportunities to meet the industry\u2019s growing need for skilled mechanics. In August 2022, it announced\u00a0another innovative collaboration\u00a0with Honolulu\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u00a0to graduate more local students as highly skilled aviation maintenance technicians. Now Hawaiian Airlines instructors teach classes at Honolulu\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>, helping to double\u00a0<abbr>AERO<\/abbr>\u2019s enrollment to 100 students by fall 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Apprentices take Honolulu\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>\u00a0courses during the day and hold a part-time shift at Hawaiian Airlines\u2019 aircraft maintenance hangar, where they get paid as mechanics performing repair and preventative maintenance.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA lot of these students are here [at Honolulu\u00a0<abbr>CC<\/abbr>] because of current mechanics at Hawaiian Airlines who are telling them how great it is to be over there and what a great company it is to work for,\u201d added Hawaiian Airlines\u00a0<abbr>AERO<\/abbr>\u00a0Instructor Jason Anderson. \u201cThey\u2019re going from knowing nothing about an airplane to then knowing the checklist and startup procedures for each one of these aircraft\u2014that\u2019s pretty impressive stuff.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Of the\u00a0<abbr>AERO<\/abbr>\u00a0cohort that graduated in May, 18 students completed the course; six of them will continue their apprenticeship at Hawaiian Airlines until they receive their Federal Aviation Administration Airframe and Power Plant Maintenance certification and begin new-hire mechanic training this summer.<\/p>\n<p>For more see\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/newsroom.hawaiianairlines.com\/blog\/from-part-time-apprentice-to-full-time-mechanic-how-hawaiian-airlines-is-training-the-next-generation-of-aviation-maintenance-technicians\">Hawaiian Airlines\u00a0<span aria-label=\"Manao\">Mana\u02bbo<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Some of the latest beneficiaries of an innovative partnership to train and recruit much needed aviation mechanics took to the stage at\u00a0Honolulu Community College\u2019s commencement ceremonies in May to receive their certificates.
