{"id":7064,"date":"2023-07-09T12:44:58","date_gmt":"2023-07-09T12:44:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=7064"},"modified":"2023-07-09T12:44:58","modified_gmt":"2023-07-09T12:44:58","slug":"us-startup-connect-airlines-stalls-as-proving-flights-abandoned","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=7064","title":{"rendered":"US Startup Connect Airlines Stalls As Proving Flights Abandoned"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Although a new regional startup carrier was supposed to finally commence flights in July, it seems that flying has been postponed until early August as Massachusetts-based\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/connect-airlines\/\">Connect Airlines<\/a>\u00a0is allegedly struggling to meet the certification requirements of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"trouble-with-the-us-dot\">Trouble with the US DOT<\/h2>\n<p>Connect Airlines is a proposed regional carrier originally intended to provide flight services between\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/billy-bishop\/\">Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport<\/a>\u00a0and Midwest and Northeast US cities such as Chicago and Philadelphia. The proposed airline plans to house a fleet of De Havilland Canada Dash 8-400s.<\/p>\n<p>As per its FAA-issued interstate and foreign operating authorizations, Connect Airlines was required to begin flights by July and September this year, respectively. The department&#8217;s response letter read:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;It does not appear that Connect Airlines has made satisfactory progress toward obtaining FAA authority. The FAA notified the department that the proposed airline&#8217;s proving flights were terminated. In other words, the situation for Connect Airlines looks relatively bleak from the department&#8217;s perspective, at least for now.<\/p>\n<div class=\"ad-even\"><\/div>\n<h2 id=\"a-different-perspective\">A different perspective<\/h2>\n<p>Yet on the contrary, the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/startup-airline\/\">startup<\/a>\u00a0shares a different side of the story with its Director of Public Affairs, Scott Brownrigg, telling FlightGlobal that the certification process has several phases and that proving flights are still happening instead of having been terminated as stated in the USDOT&#8217;s response letter.<\/p>\n<p>Citing an alarming error in the department&#8217;s letter, Brownrigg highlights that Connect Airlines&#8217; certification process is continuing well, and the startup is working alongside the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/simpleflying.com\/tag\/federal-aviation-administration\/\">FAA<\/a>\u00a0as part of the normal process. Hopefully, Connect Airlines can quickly resolve the situation with the USDOT while completing the certification process with the FAA.<\/p>\n<p>But even if such obstacles are cleared, the startup regional carrier still has red tape to remove with Transport Canada before transborder revenue flights can be launched. The question then becomes, when will Connect Airlines finally take to the skies with passengers?
