{"id":8190,"date":"2023-09-03T08:43:46","date_gmt":"2023-09-03T08:43:46","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=8190"},"modified":"2023-09-03T08:43:46","modified_gmt":"2023-09-03T08:43:46","slug":"volunteers-work-to-improve-100-year-old-grass-airstrip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=8190","title":{"rendered":"Volunteers work to improve 100-year-old grass airstrip"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aviation news international -A group of 25 volunteers gathered in late July 2023 to make improvements to Waterbury Airport (<a href=\"https:\/\/skyvector.com\/airport\/N41\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#skyvector\">N41<\/a>) in Connecticut, according to officials with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theraf.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.theraf.org\">Recreational Aviation Foundation<\/a>\u00a0(RAF).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe could not be more impressed with the turnout we had for the RAF work party at N41 Waterbury Airport,\u201d said RAF Connecticut Ambassador Brian Thomas.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that RAF Connecticut Liaison Andrew Lyons, Ambassadors Greg Delp and DJ Nicholson, and members from local\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eaa.org\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"www.eaa.org\">Experimental Aircraft Association<\/a>\u00a0(EAA) chapters accomplished a variety of tasks.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe group of 25 volunteers put in a hard day\u2019s work to improve our beloved little grass airport on its 100th year of operation,\u201d Thomas added.<\/p>\n<p>A June 2023 RAF grant, combined with funds raised during the airfield\u2019s Mount Toberfest Fly-In, went toward the purchase of materials for two picnic tables, a RAF fire ring, park-style barbecue grills, and a composting outhouse.<\/p>\n<p>The volunteers assembled the tables and removed large standing dead trees that were threatening the camping area.
