{"id":8322,"date":"2023-09-07T07:47:34","date_gmt":"2023-09-07T07:47:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=8322"},"modified":"2023-09-07T07:47:34","modified_gmt":"2023-09-07T07:47:34","slug":"fuel-your-aviation-journey","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aviation-news.info\/?p=8322","title":{"rendered":"FUEL YOUR AVIATION JOURNEY"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Aviation news international &#8211; Made possible through the generous donations of AOPA members, the foundation is offering a variety of scholarships to ease the cost of education, training, and testing with awards ranging from $2,500 to $14,000.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The scholarships offer a range of opportunities for those seeking to enhance their skills, qualifications, and career opportunities by earning their pilot certificate or advanced ratings, transitioning to a different aircraft type, or partaking in specialized training.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Paving the way for high school students and educators to earn their private certificate, the Ray Foundation is providing 80 $10,000 scholarships to high school students and 20 $10,000 scholarships to educators actively teaching the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/youcanfly.aopa.org\/high-school\/high-school-curriculum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">AOPA Foundation High School Aviation STEM Curriculum<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>AOPA announced the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aopa.org\/news-and-media\/all-news\/2023\/july\/06\/aopa-foundation-announces-scholarship-recipients\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2023 scholarship recipients<\/a>\u00a0in July, and the winners were grateful for the assistance. One proud recipient, Alton Downer\u2014a line service technician at Frederick Municipal Airport in Maryland\u2014was awarded an AOPA flight training scholarship to continue his flight training. (An aerobatic ride in an Extra 300 in\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.aopa.org\/news-and-media\/all-news\/2022\/august\/24\/one-ill-never-forget\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2022<\/a>\u00a0provided an extra jolt of inspiration.)<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI always wanted to learn to fly; as a child I\u2019d look up at the airplanes in the sky and wonder how they did that,\u201d Downer said. \u201cI didn\u2019t know anyone in aviation but when a job came open at the airport, I took the opportunity to at least be a part of aviation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Downer joined AOPA and applied for a 2023 scholarship, having applied previously without success.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy advice to anyone is to keep applying, but also to check your junk mail. Not sure why [the award letter] ended up there, but it is a blessing,\u201d Downer said. Now Downer\u2019s children are showing interest in taking to the skies. \u201cI say not yet, daddy doesn\u2019t know how to fly yet. But when I do, I\u2019m going to show them they can do it too. Each scholarship comes with its own set of eligibility criteria, but applicants need only submit one application to be considered for all scholarships for which they qualify. The number and amount of all scholarships will be determined by donor funding, which may not be finalized until immediately before awards are announced in May.<\/p>\n<p>To apply, all applicants must be members of AOPA.
