Ontario provides over $2.3M to support local infrastructure in Aurora

The Ontario government is providing $2,335,687 to support economic growth and job creation in Aurora through the Ontario Community Infrastructure Fund (OCIF). The fund is part of the government’s overall investment of $400 million in 2023 to support eligible communities in their critical infrastructure needs, including road, bridge, water, and wastewater projects.

“I am pleased that the Town of Aurora is receiving this funding from the OCIF to assist with critical infrastructure needs that will benefit the citizens of our community,” said Michael Parsa, MPP of Aurora—Oak Ridges—Richmond Hill.

“As an MPP and resident of Aurora, I am proud of our government’s investment that will support economic growth and job creation in the Town of Aurora,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, MPP Newmarket-Aurora. “(This funding) is essential to the growth and prosperity of both the Town of Aurora and the Province of Ontario.”

“The town’s annual OCIF allocation enables it to complete more of its very necessary infrastructure renewal work than it otherwise could have without these funds being available. This funding helps to alleviate an equivalent funding pressure on the town’s tax and water rate payers, which has continued grow as the town’s infrastructure ages.”

The 2022 OCIF allocation specifically provided the town with an additional $2,697,900 in required road reconstruction, repair and preventive maintenance work totalling $2,147,900, and a further $600,000 in storm pond restoration and wastewater work.

“Ontario’s small, rural and northern communities, like Aurora are essential to the growth and prosperity of the province,” said Kinga Surma, minister of infrastructure. “Our government is continuing to provide stable funding to meet local infrastructure needs and provide support in response to pressures from inflation. By supporting key community infrastructure projects, we are helping to grow and build safer, more resilient communities for generations to come.”
