Greek airports soar to record-breaking passenger traffic in 2024

Passenger traffic at airports across Greece surged during the first 11 months of 2024, setting a new record even before the year’s end.
According to statistics from the Hellenic Civil Aviation Authority (HCAA), a total of 76,249,626 passengers traveled between January and November 2024, marking a 9.3% increase compared to 69,774,369 passengers during the same period in 2023.
This record-breaking trend reflects the surpassing of annual passenger traffic levels from 2023, with figures for both the 10-month and 11-month periods of 2024 exceeding the total for the entire year of 2023.
Among regional airports, Heraklion’s “Nikos Kazantzakis” Airport recorded the highest passenger traffic in November. It served 225,234 passengers, reflecting a remarkable 26.3% increase from the 178,376 passengers served in November 2023.
Other notable increases in November 2024 included Ikaria Airport, which saw a rise of 64.5% and Naxos Airport, with a 33% increase.- ekathimerini
