The New York-based low-cost airline, JetBlue, has reduced its flights between Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) and Boston Logan International Airport (BOS). The airline currently has zero scheduled flights between Newark and Boston during the months of July and August.
Cutting flights between Newark Liberty and Boston Logan
JetBlue, which lists Boston as a focus city, has reduced flights between Boston Logan Airport and Newark Airport throughout the entire summer.
During April and May of this year, the number of flights will increase from last year. JetBlue is scheduled to fly from Newark to Boston Logan 45 times in April, which is 14 more times than what the airline flew in 2022. The airline will fly this route approximately 87 times in May. This will be five more flights than the 82 flights that occurred in May 2022. However, even with the increase in flights, there will still be 172 fewer seats scheduled to fly in May.
However, JetBlue began to cut flights in the early summer. The airline is scheduled to fly only 16 flights as of this week. Just last week, the airline was scheduled to fly 88 flights, which means the airline cut 72 flights in the past week. Compared the last year, the airline flew 82 flights during the month of June. So this is a decrease of 66 flights year over year, which will result in 6,600 fewer seats scheduled to fly.
However, the real flight cuts are occurring during July and August. In the past week, JetBlue has removed all scheduled flights from Newark to Boston in July and August. This is a reduction of 89 flights in July and 88 in August. Compared to last year, 55 flights were flown in each of these two months.
JetBlue also reduced flights in September, but not by nearly as much compared to July and August. The airline will be flying this route 67 times, which is down from the originally scheduled 82 flights as of last week. This is a slight reduction of 15 flights compared to the 76 flown last year.
There are no additional changes in the remainder of the year compared to last week. This will show a steady increase in flights in October, November, and December compared to last year.
JetBlue’s upcoming summer
The airline is reducing several other flights throughout the summer and the upcoming months. JetBlue has cut over 30 flights a month during July and August from Boston to LaGuardia Airport (LGA) in the past week. This resulted in 146 fewer flights for this route in August compared to last year. Also, compared to last year, JetBlue has reduced July flights for this route by over 150.
The airline is cutting additional flights from LaGuardia during July. The destinations for these reduced flights are Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY), Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), and Charleston International Airport (CHS). Specifically, Charleston will be losing over 50 flights during August compared to last year, and Jacksonville will be losing just under 50 flights in August compared to last year.
